ISTANBUL, May 16 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will invest US$1.4 trillion in the United States (US) over the next decade, President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced on Thursday during talks with US President Donald Trump at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Mohammed said the investments, to be channelled through Emirati investment institutions, would focus on sectors including the new economy, energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and industry, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
He underscored that the US is a key strategic partner in the UAE’s space exploration ambitions, which include Mars missions, astronaut training programmes, and an asteroid belt exploration project.
“Last March, you stated that the UAE and the UAE have always been strategic partners in supporting peace and security efforts in the Middle East and across the world. Today, I reaffirm that Abu Dhabi is committed to continuing our joint work with Washington to achieve peace and stability in our region and beyond,” Sheikh Mohammed told Trump.
He further expressed confidence that the visit would significantly strengthen bilateral relations, adding: “I am confident that this visit will have a profound impact on the future of our bilateral relationship.”
Trump was received at the Abu Dhabi airport by the UAE president, according to the state news agency WAM. He later toured the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque alongside Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE is the final stop in Trump’s Gulf tour, which also included visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
His visit to Abu Dhabi marks the first by a US president since George W. Bush in 2008.
