09/05/2025 06:35 AM

MOSCOW, May 9 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday said China and Russia must maintain strategic resolve and coordination as the world enters a new period of turbulence and transformation.

Xi made the remarks during a tea chat with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow, held as part of his visit to attend events commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, Xinhua news agency reported.

He said that as long as both nations stay united in strategy, no force could hinder their development and revitalisation.

Xi also emphasised that the foundation of friendship between the two peoples remains unshakeable, and the global trend towards multipolarity and economic globalisation cannot be reversed.

Xi expressed his readiness to maintain close communication with Putin to chart the course of China-Russia relations and contribute to the advancement of global governance.

Putin, in response, said Russia and China have always stood in solidarity and supported each other, forging an unbreakable friendship.

He said he is committed to maintaining close strategic dialogue with Xi, guiding the development of bilateral ties, and working together to address a complex global landscape.

The Russian leader added that both countries aim to deepen strategic coordination, safeguard shared interests, and promote a more just, democratic, and multipolar world order.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis.

Xi reiterated China’s stance, advocating a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security. He said the legitimate security concerns of all countries must be taken seriously, and the root causes of the Ukraine conflict addressed.

China, he said, welcomes all efforts conducive to peace and hopes a fair, lasting and binding peace agreement acceptable to all relevant parties can be reached through dialogue.

Putin praised China’s objective and impartial position on the political settlement of the conflict.

He said Russia is ready to engage in peace talks without preconditions and hopes to achieve a fair and enduring agreement.
