MOSCOW, May 8 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- A temporary ceasefire declared by Russia has officially taken effect and is set to remain in place until midnight on May 11, in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of Victory Day.
The measure, announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, comes as the country prepares to mark the end of World War II in Europe with national commemorations, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky did not endorse the initiative and advised foreign dignitaries against travelling to Moscow for the celebrations, citing security concerns.
Russian officials dismissed the cautionary remarks.
