FANDI AHMAD WANTS TOK GAJAH TO PROVE THEIR WORTH IN MALAYSIA CUP FINAL AGAINST JDT

KUANTAN, April 25 (Bernama) -- Sri Pahang FC head coach, Fandi Ahmad, has acknowledged that his team will be considered the underdogs when they face Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in the Malaysia Cup final at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium (SBNJ) tomorrow.

However, Fandi remains optimistic, stressing that the Tok Gajah squad still has a chance to pull off an upset through their determination and strong will to prove their worth in challenging the Super League champions.

“What we have is the team’s commitment to work hard, stay disciplined, and remain determined to seize success in the final.

“Spirit and motivation like this are crucial. For me, Sri Pahang's progress this season is already a bonus, as we’ve made history by reaching the final after 11 years,” he told Bernama.

The 62-year-old Singaporean football legend emphasised that the key to success for his side will be avoiding mistakes early in the game.

Fandi also said that the second crucial aspect for his players is mutual support and constant communication during the game.

“The players need to help one another, maintain communication, stay calm and not waste any opportunity in front of them,” he said.

In preparation for the final, Fandi said that the team had also focused on penalty shootouts should the match go to that stage.

For the record, Sri Pahang previously defeated JDT 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in the 2014 Malaysia Cup final.

JDT, meanwhile, are aiming for their fifth Malaysia Cup title, having previously won the prestigious trophy in 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023.
