KANGAR, April 25 (Bernama) -- The Perlis branch of the Information Department (JaPen) has planned the implementation of 180 activities in conjunction with the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) launched earlier this year to strengthen awareness among the community on the importance of using the internet wisely.
Its director, Mazli Hamdan said the medium of implementing the campaign is through the Jalinan Insan Wahana Aspirasi (JIWA) programme which was mobilised with 45 MADANI Communities nationwide.
“For now, a total of 50 activities have been implemented since the end of February through JIWA @ Komuniti MADANI which focuses on the approach of reaching out to the people and delivering information related to internet safety directly," he said when met by Bernama recently.
Mazli said his team will also collaborate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) through the implementation of the MADANI NADI (The National Information Dissemination Centre X programme involving 14 NADI centres.
“Through this programme, the community is exposed to safe internet use and the latest technology, including artificial intelligence (AI),” he said.
He said the campaign was also expanded to schools through collaboration with the Perlis Education Department and Malaysiaku Club through Pentarama X Malaysiaku Club involving four secondary schools, namely Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Perlis, SMK Kuala Perlis, SMK Syed Alwi and SMK Putra.
“Additionally, the Safe Internet Campaign will also be rolled out in 14 secondary schools throughout the state with the involvement of the MCMC where talks and information distribution on cyber fraud techniques (scammers) as well as online safety measures will be shared with students and school staff,” he said.
Mazli added that the school programme is scheduled to start at the end of April until it is completed in all the schools involved.
