10/04/2025 08:09 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) – The National Sports Council (MSN) has agreed to meet the request of Malaysia Athletics (MA) to appoint six new coaches to strengthen the athletics squad for upcoming major competitions, including the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand later this year.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between MSN Director-General Jefri Ngadirin and the MA delegation led by its president, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, at the MSN headquarters today.

The six new coaches, comprising three foreign experts and three local coaches, were selected by MA to enhance coaching across all disciplines, including sprints, throws, and jumps.

"I have met with MA president Datuk Seri Shahidan and we have agreed on the appointment of the six coaches in line with the planning proposal submitted by MA to MSN.

"Details and the announcement of the list of coaches will be made by MA at a later date," said Jefri in a statement from MSN.

Last Tuesday, MA general manager, Nurhayati Karim announced that the appointment of the new coaching team for the national athletics squad was in its final stages and that the association was waiting for approval from MSN after submitting the list of coaches to the governing body.
