KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) – A noble cause brought together former national athletes, officials, corporate figures and supporters at the Templer Park Golf and Country Club, where they took to the greens for a fundraising golf tournament in support of junior track and field athletes.
The tournament organised by the Young Talent Track & Field (YTTF) Club attracted around 100 participants including several well-known former national athletes such as ex-hockey players A. Sambu, M. Kaliswaran and Ahmad Fadzil, former 400m hurdler Norsheela Khaled and former sprinter Datuk Shahrudin Ali.
YTTF junior development programme chairman Datuk Karu Selvaratnam said the programme was launched in June 2022 with 127 children on board.
“The objective is to identify, motivate, train and develop these young promising athletes to succeed in sports and studies. The kids are given free training.
“The programme is aimed at producing a large pool of talented junior athletes. Our aim is to provide a platform for these promising athletes to showcase their talent. YTTF raises funds by organizing such events to pay coaches. Through the programme, several athletes have gone on to represent the country,” he said in a statement.
Among its notable talents are Nurasliza Mohd Sapri who won gold in the women’s shot put at the 2023 Special Needs Berlin Olympics and Nuramir Muqsid who finished fourth in the 200m at the same games.
