TAPAH, April 16 (Bernama) -- Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek has been advised by the Perak State Mufti Department to stop giving religious lectures and talks at mosques and surau following his nomination for the Ayer Kuning state by-election.
His campaign manager, Misbahul Munir Masduki, said Abd Muhaimin has complied with the advice and has since stopped all religious teaching and preaching activities.
"The candidate is fully following the advice issued by the Mufti Department," he said during PN’s daily press conference here today.
When asked whether Abd Muhaimin’s religious teaching accreditation had been revoked, Misbahul Munir said he had no information on the matter.
Earlier, Perak police recorded a statement from Abd Muhaimin – who is also the PAS Tapah Division chief – regarding his teaching credentials. The matter has since been referred to the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) for further action.
The Ayer Kuning by-election, scheduled for April 26, will see a three-way contest between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Abd Muhaimin of PN, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate Bawani KS.
