JAIS, SEPANG PDT TO ENSURE DENGKIL MOSQUE SITE IS VACATED WITHIN A MONTH

SHAH ALAM, April 11 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), in collaboration with the Sepang District and Land Office (PDT), will ensure that the land gazetted for the Dengkil Mosque project is vacated within one month.

JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said this was in line with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s decree that all land under JAIS’ control be protected from encroachment.

He said that, following this, all land under the state religious agency’s control would be inspected again within the next month to ensure no encroachment, with the cooperation of PDT and relevant local authorities.

Mohd Shahzihan also urged anyone with information about encroachment on JAIS land to report it directly to the department.

“The public can also contact the State Authority or District Islamic Religious Office, or the JAIS Enforcement Hotline at 1-800-88-2424 for attention and further action,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, the media reported that the issue of encroachment on land gazetted for the Dengkil Mosque development was peacefully resolved after the parties that had illegally built houses of worship in the area expressed their willingness to vacate the site.

Commenting on the issue, Mohd Shahzihan said the Sepang PDT had relocated those affected to Sungai Langat reserve land and granted them Temporary Occupancy Licence (TOL) status.

“The parties on the land had been relocated from Ladang Galloway following the acquisition of land by the government for the development of Cyberjaya.

“In 2007, the state government issued an order for the land to be vacated for the construction of a mosque, and the individuals involved sought compensation for being required to vacate the site,” he said.

Mohd Shahzihan stated that in 2011, the state government gazetted 10 acres of land for the construction of a mosque, part of which was Sungai Langat reserve land that had been cultivated by the parties involved without the removal of those occupying the land.

According to him, since the land was gazetted for mosque construction, JAIS had assumed it to be vacant. However, last year, it detected activity and construction on the site.

He said that in response, JAIS had issued a letter dated Sept 10, 2024, for the Sepang PDT to initiate legal action to vacate the land.

Mohd Shahzihan explained that after the letter was issued, JAIS believed that a police report was unnecessary, as the Sepang PDT had the authority under the National Land Code 1965 to enforce the vacating of land due to unauthorised activities and construction.

“However, JAIS admits that no follow-up action was taken by the PDT in response to the letter from JAIS,” he said.
