MALAYSIA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE AND SUSTAINABLE PEACE FOR PALESTINE

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has reaffirmed its role as a principled voice on the global stage and its unwavering commitment to justice for Palestine, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Dr Zulkifli Hasan.

He said Malaysia’s position is shaped by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s consistent advocacy at platforms such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), practising a form of strategic multilateralism that aligns with both national values and global principles.

“Malaysia’s actions embody the concept of normative power projecting influence not through military might, but through the force of moral authority, humanitarian aid, and principled diplomacy.

“In solidarity with the Global South, Malaysia continues to mobilise support for a just and lasting peace in Palestine, calling for sanctions, ceasefires, and legal accountability,” he said in his keynote address during the Round Table Discussion – Towards a Sustainable Peace in Gaza – here on Tuesday.

The discussion, organised by the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia and Akademi Profesor Malaysia (APM), brought together senior officials, policy experts, academics, and civil society leaders to deliberate on long-term peacebuilding and international legal mechanisms to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Addressing the need for long-term peacebuilding, Zulkifli echoed calls for the full implementation of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine to prevent further atrocities and protect vulnerable populations.

“Let us remain focused on inclusive dialogue and long-term peacebuilding,” he said.

The discussion reached a set of policy-driven, people-centred resolutions across four key pillars, namely education, healthcare, social cohesion, and governance.

These proposals offer short, medium and long-term interventions that Malaysia can pursue independently or in partnership with the international community.
