US STOCKS CLOSE HIGHER

NEW YORK, April 12 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- US stocks ended higher on Friday reported Xinhua.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 619.05 points, or 1.56 per cent, to 40,212.71. The S&P 500 added 95.31 points, or 1.81 per cent, to 5,363.36. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 337.14 points, or 2.06 per cent, to 16,724.46.

All of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with materials and technology leading the gainers by going up 2.99 per cent and 2.56 per cent, respectively. Consumer discretionary posted the weakest growth, up by 1.09 per cent.
