KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 (Bernama) -- Due to the recent earthquake, Myanmar’s Ministry of Immigration and Population has announced that tourist visa applications will be temporarily suspended starting April 3, according to the Embassy of Malaysia in Yangon on Wednesday.

The embassy, on its Facebook posting, said a further announcement will be made once the service resumes.

“Business visa applications will continue to be accepted as usual,” the post read.

On March 28, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar and also affected neighbouring Thailand.

Media reported that the death toll from the devastating earthquake in Myanmar has climbed to 3,645, with 5,017 people injured and 148 still missing, as of 6 pm local time on Tuesday.
