UKRAINE READY TO CEASEFIRE FOR AT LEAST 30 DAYS STARTING MONDAY

MOSCOW, May 10 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Saturday, following the summit of the "coalition of the willing," that Kyiv and its allies were ready to implement a full and unconditional ceasefire for at least 30 days starting Monday, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.

Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in Kyiv for a summit of the "coalition of the willing."

"Ukraine and all allies are ready for a full unconditional ceasefire on land, air, and at sea for at least 30 days starting already on Monday. If Russia agrees and effective monitoring is ensured, a durable ceasefire and confidence-building measures can pave the way to peace negotiations," Sybiha said on X.

The four European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a "fruitful" phone call with US President Donald Trump after the summit, the Ukrainian minister said. The phone call focused on the efforts to achieve a peaceful end to the Ukrainian conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared an Easter truce, which was in effect from April 19-21. However, the Russian Defence Ministry said that it had recorded 4,900 violations during this period. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Kyiv was unable to cease fire even for 30 hours.

Russia declared another three-day ceasefire in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two starting at midnight on May 8. The Russian Defence Ministry said on Saturday that the Ukrainian armed forces had violated the ceasefire 9,318 times.

Putin stated in January that if there is a desire to find a compromise solution, negotiations on Ukraine can be conducted with anyone. According to the Russian leader, the main issues are that Zelensky’s term of office expired in May 2024 and that Ukraine has a law in place that forbids Ukrainian officials from talking to Moscow. In April, Putin confirmed Russia's readiness to negotiate with Ukraine without preconditions at a meeting with US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
