ASEAN LADIES' CIRCLE KUALA LUMPUR VISITS SENIOR HOME IN COMMUNITY OUTREACH INITIATIVE

KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Ladies' Circle (ALC) Kuala Lumpur visited Rumah Seri Kenangan in Kajang recently as part of its community outreach initiative to support senior citizens and strengthen regional solidarity.

During the visit held on April 25, ALC Kuala Lumpur President and Ambassador of the Philippines to Malaysia, Maria Angela Ponce reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to fostering unity and compassion among ASEAN member countries.

She stressed the importance of supporting vulnerable communities through meaningful engagement and regional cooperation, according to a statement from ALC.

The event brought joy to the home's 198 residents aged 60 and above, many of whom face loneliness or limited family support.

The delegation was led by Ponce, accompanied by Alternate Patron of ALC Malaysia and Deputy Secretary-General (Management Services) of Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry, Datin Paduka Siti Hajjar Adnin.

Also present were Executive Committee members and country representatives from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand, including Lada Phumas, Thailand Ambassador to Malaysia.

ALC Kuala Lumpur presented a financial contribution of RM5,000 to Rumah Seri Kenangan. The mock cheque was handed over by Ponce to Chairman of the Board of Visitors, Datuk Zulkeflee Hazeh.

Delegates also toured the home's facilities, including the Activity and Therapy rooms, and engaged with residents during the visit, the statement added.

Founded as Perkumpulan Wanita ASEAN, ALC Kuala Lumpur champions unity, cultural exchange, disaster relief and community empowerment across ASEAN.

This year, ALC Kuala Lumpur’s activities are aligned with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, further amplifying its mission at the regional level.
