KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- Heart disease remains one of Malaysia’s biggest health concerns, with Malaysians suffering heart attacks at an average age of 58 and almost 30,000 deaths attributed to ischaemic heart diseases in 2023.

In response to this alarming trend, Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) is launching their “Pulse of Life: The Ultimate Heart Health Experience” CSR event from April 25 to 27 at Sunway Velocity Mall’s Main Atrium.

This three-day event will be filled with a series of interactive experiences, complimentary screenings, and expert-led engagements to empower individuals across all age groups to take charge of their heart health.

“Among the event highlights is the Immersive Visual Journey, an engaging and visually captivating installation that turns real-time heartbeats into an artistic light display. Visitors can also participate in a large-scale ECG screening, which are both complimentary for all attendees,” SMCV said in a statement today

It added that as the first line of assessment in detecting potential heart abnormalities, the screening will be supported by SMCV’s Consultant Cardiologist and Internal Medicine Physicians, who will be available on-ground to interpret report which indicates any areas for further review and provide their expert insights to the participants.

“With both experiences introduced for the first time in Malaysia, SMCV marks a meaningful step forward in making heart health more accessible and engaging for the public,” it said.

SMCV Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Susan Cheow said as a leading healthcare institution, they believe prevention and education must go hand in hand.

“With this campaign, we’re bringing heart health into a public space in a way that’s engaging, informative, and accessible to all. By introducing Malaysia’s first immersive visual journey and large-scale ECG screening, we hope to spark conversations and encourage more people to take that first step towards prioritising their heart health,” she said.

Meanwhile, SMCV Consultant Cardiologist and Internal Medicine Physician, Dr Tee Chee Hian said many people assume heart disease only affects the elderly, but they’re seeing more young Malaysians being diagnosed with cardiovascular issues lately.

“We hope to show that heart health doesn’t have to be complicated as early detection, education, and small lifestyle changes can make a big difference,” he said.

The event will also bring together some of the country’s leading health and wellness brands, including Sunway Multicare Pharmacy and ChiX Fitness. These partners will offer visitors access to booths, health advice, and fitness-driven experiences.

“Attendees can explore the Heart Health Educational Gallery and Giant Heart Exhibit by Viatris, an interactive showcase designed to educate the public on the anatomy of the heart and how it works, heart disease prevention, risk factors and the impact of lifestyle choices on cardiovascular health.

“For those eager to get moving, complimentary fitness workshops in collaboration with ChiX Fitness will provide guided exercise sessions and fitness challenges throughout the three-day event, demonstrating how physical activity plays a crucial role in maintaining and improving heart health,” SMCV said.

In addition to interactive exhibits and fitness activities, complimentary health and wellness services by SMCV will be available throughout the event.

Visitors can consult SMCV pharmacists for medication and vaccination counselling and undergo complimentary basic health screenings including blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol checks conducted by the hospital’s nursing team.

“The public is encouraged to join this three-day event to gain valuable insights into cardiovascular health, participate in complimentary screenings and explore a range of interactive activities,” it added.
