GEORGE TOWN, April 7 (Bernama) -- Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) plans to restore water supply within 24 hours for around 40 per cent of users affected by the scheduled water disruption in the state, set to take place from 10 pm on April 25 to 10 am on April 28.
PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan said that by the end of the 48-hour disruption over the weekend, approximately 88 per cent of affected users, including factories in key industrial areas and Penang International Airport (LTAPP), are expected to have their water supply restored.
“The full restoration of water supply is expected within 60 hours, covering all 341,708 affected users across the state,” he noted in a statement today.
A comprehensive water tanker delivery plan will be announced later this week to help mitigate public inconvenience during the disruption, he added.
The SWSI, set for April 2025, will be the only planned water disruption this year as PBAPP undertakes 23 major pipeline installation projects and other essential works, with a total cost of RM25 million.
Pathmanathan explained that the disruption would affect most areas in all five districts of Penang, namely Seberang Perai Utara (SPU), Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT), Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS), Timur Laut and Barat Daya.
In SPU, affected areas include Bagan Dalam, Bagan Jermal, Butterworth, and the southern parts of Permatang Berangan, Sungai Puyu and Sungai Dua. In SPT, disruptions will affect Alma, Berapit, Bukit Minyak, Bukit Tengah, Machang Bubok, Padang Lallang, Penanti, Perai, Permatang Pasir, Permatang Pauh and Seberang Jaya.
In SPS, impacted areas will include the Batu Kawan Industrial Area, Bukit Tambun, Jawi, Nibong Tebal (north), Simpang Ampat, Sungai Bakap (north) and Valdor.
On the island, disruptions in the Timur Laut district are expected in Batu Lanchang, Gelugor, George Town, Green Lane, Gurney Drive, Island Glades, Island Park, Jelutong, Komtar, Minden Heights, Sungai Dua and USM, along with several neighbourhoods in Datuk Keramat, Farlim and Pulau Tikus.
In Barat Daya, affected areas include Balik Pulau (southern neighbourhoods), Batu Maung, Batu Uban, Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas (including the Free Trade Zone), Bukit Jambul, Bukit Penara, Gertak Sanggul, Kampung Terang, Pantai Jerejak, Permatang Damar Laut, Pulau Betong, Taman Relau, Sungai Ara, Sungai Batu and Teluk Kumbar.
“PBAPP apologises for the inconvenience caused by the SWSI in April 2025. Affected users are advised to store enough water for 24, 48 or 60 hours, depending on their location,” Pathmanathan said.
