TAPAH, April 19 (Bernama) -- MIC has identified nearly 3,000 Indian voters in favour of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir in the Ayer Kuning state by-election on April 26.
MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said this was because the BN machinery in the Tapah parliamentary constituency had been working tirelessly to engage with people of all races, not just during the election season.
“We don’t wait for the election season to do our work. If there are flash floods, damaged roads, or schools in need of help, we will be on the ground,” he told Bernama.
He added that the unity shown by the party machinery had helped maintain Tapah as a BN stronghold.
“The spirit of unity among the Indian, Malay and Chinese communities was evident during the 15th General Election, when MIC, UMNO and MCA candidates were all given the mandate by the people to serve as elected representatives,” he said.
Saravanan said that unity among the BN component parties in Tapah had laid the foundation for efficient service delivery, particularly in addressing local issues together.
He said that for the Ayer Kuning state by-election, BN was receiving support from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) machinery, which would certainly increase the number of votes for the Unity Government's candidate.
The Ayer Kuning by-election will see a three-cornered fight between Mohamad Yusri, Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Abd Muhaimin Malek and Bawani KS of Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
There are 31,897 registered voters in the Ayer Kuning state constituency, with 56 per cent being Malay, 22 per cent Chinese, 14 per cent Indian, and 8 per cent from other groups.
