KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Palm Oil Research and Technical Service Institute of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (Portsim) in Shanghai, China, has played a key role in enhancing the export value of Malaysian palm oil and strengthening its image as a high-quality, reliable raw material for various downstream industries in China.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities Datuk Chan Foong Hin said that Portsim’s efforts in research, development, and commercialisation directly contributed RM357.98 million in export earnings in 2024.
“This represents a 13.56 per cent increase in value compared to if the same volume were traded as crude commodities.
“Over the past two decades, Portsim has contributed meaningfully to the sustainable growth and diversification of Malaysian palm oil exports to China,” he said in a statement today, in conjunction with Portsim’s 20th anniversary celebration dinner in Shanghai yesterday.
The event was also attended by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities secretary-general Datuk Yusran Shah Mohd Yusof; the Malaysian Palm Oil Board director-general Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir; and Portsim general manager Yoong Jun Hao.
As the official branch of MPOB in China, Portsim acts as a key link in strengthening Malaysia–China collaboration in technical research, palm oil applications, and industry partnerships.
