MAKKAH, May 17 (Bernama) -- The opportunity to visit Jabal Nur, meaning Mountain of Light or Hill of Illumination, the site of the first Quranic revelation, is more than just a historical excursion. It is a spiritual journey, offering pilgrims a profound space for reflection and appreciation of Islam’s greatest blessing, the Quran.
Tabung Haji (TH) Holy Land Haj Facilitator (PIHTAS), Dr Mohd Bakri Aziz @ Saari, said Jabal Nur, located near the city of Makkah at an altitude of 642 metres above sea level, carries a deeply meaningful message for every pilgrim.
He said it serves as a reminder to strengthen one’s faith and commitment to Islamic teachings, even in the face of life’s challenges.
“For those pilgrims who are blessed with the opportunity to climb it, although it is not a requirement of the pilgrimage, ascending Jabal Nur provides a moving sense of the immense blessings inherited through Islam,” he said when met by the media recently.
He added that pilgrims can reflect on the profound event of the first revelation, which marked the beginning of Islam’s spread and transformed the course of human civilisation.
At the summit lies the historic Cave of Hira, where Prophet Muhammad SAW received the first divine revelation through Surah Al-‘Alaq. This solitary cave became the sacred witness to a pivotal moment in religious history.
Dr Mohd Bakri also highlighted the sacrifice and unwavering support of Sayyidatina Khadijah RA, the beloved wife of Prophet Muhammad SAW, who would deliver food and provide encouragement while the Prophet secluded himself in the cave for reflection and worship.
“Sayyidatina Khadijah’s sacrifices and support during the early days of Islam should serve as a lasting source of inspiration for Muslims today,” he said
