KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 (Bernama) -- The industry has saved RM100 million through the waiver of compounds and late payment charges under the Social Security Organisation (Socso) Amnesty Programme from April 1-30, 2025, said the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF).
The amnesty, which has been extended to May 31, 2025, allows employers to settle outstanding Socso contributions without incurring any penalty, compound, or late penalty charges.
The MEF also revealed that 220,000 employers came forward voluntarily to regularise their Socso contributions in April, while a million workers are now newly protected under the Socso scheme.
MEF president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said these results clearly demonstrates employers’ commitment when given the opportunity and support to comply with the law.
"The extension of the programme is a commendable initiative by the Human Resources Minister Steven Sim and Socso, demonstrating a pragmatic and compassionate approach that encourage compliance while strengthening Malaysia’s social security protection frameworks.
"MEF applauds the government for giving employers a second chance to regularise their obligations without fear of penalties," he said in a statement.
Syed Hussain also urged all remaining employers to take advantage of this extended amnesty window to register their employees with Socso before May 31, 2025, and ensure compliance with labour and social security protection laws.
He also reminds all employers that protecting workers is not just a legal obligation but a shared responsibility in building a resilient workforce.
"Employers that have yet to fully comply with Socso contributions should do so urgently to avoid future risks as post-amnesty, strict enforcement will resume, including audits prosecution and penalties.
“As a responsible voice of employers in Malaysia, MEF remains fully supportive of government efforts to ensure no worker is left behind in the national social security protection," he said.
