TAWAU, May 8 (Bernama) -- Sixty-one students from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanjung Batu Keramat will perform at the 2025 MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) Sabah, featuring traditional instruments such as the angklung.
The students will perform the song Azizah, originally by the legendary Tan Sri P. Ramlee, as a heartfelt tribute to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with a special nod to his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Along with it, they will also perform a medley of classic tunes, including Bujang Lapok and Lenggang Kangkung.
Teacher Mariyanti Sardi, who leads the music group, said Standard Five pupil Nurul Taqwa Safri will sing Azizah, accompanied by instruments like the ukulele, kalimba, guitar, tambourine, shaker and keyboard.
The performance, which has been in preparation for two weeks, also includes instrumental music, she said.
The event will feature students from both mainstream and the Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI), with 11 special education students involved.
Mariyanti noted that the performance was a valuable opportunity for the students, particularly the PPKI participants, to showcase their talents and build confidence.
“The performance highlights their musical potential and fosters inclusivity,” she said.
The PMR 2025 event, taking place from May 9 to 11 at Tawau Municipal Council Square, will be officially closed by Anwar on Sunday.
Special Education teacher Siti Norhazila Hamzah said that the rehearsals began with the 11 PPKI students, followed by mainstream pupils.
The performance brings together special needs students, including one with autism who is skilled in playing the keyboard and other instruments.
Meanwhile, Nurul Taqwa said the experience of performing at PMR 2025 was meaningful and exciting.
“We practiced hard to deliver our best performance. It’s fun to perform with my friends because they are all talented,” she said.
The students will perform tomorrow at the student’s performance segment themed ‘MADANI Generational Unity’ on the main stage.
