CAMBODIA 

 

1.TOURISM SITES EARN RM95  MILLION IN Q4 -- FRESH NEWS 

Ticket sales to the Archaeological Park, Koh Ker and Chong Khneas Tourism Port generated RM95 million (US$22 million) in the first quarter of this year. The government donated RM4 million from the revenue (US$949,620) to Kantha Bopha Hospital to help children. 

 

2.DRIVING SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AGENDA -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation hosted the 6th Meeting of the National Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation. The objective is to strengthen Cambodia’s role in advancing the science, technology, and innovation agenda.

1.INDONESIA FREEZES RP 600 BLN IN BANK ACCOUNTS LINKED TO ONLINE GAMBLING -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indonesian authorities have frozen over 5,000 bank accounts linked to online gambling, with deposits totalling approximately Rp 600 billion (US$36.2 million) in recent months, an official announced on Thursday.

Head of the Education Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Trina Fizzanty, has stressed that the reorientation of education is essential to build an educational environment that prioritises honesty and integrity.

The number of Lao workers working abroad has increased significantly, with 76,664 people seeking jobs outside the country in the first three months of this year. The Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare said nearly 98,000 Lao nationals worked abroad in 2024.

The 12th ASEAN Navy Young Officers Interaction was held in Yangon from 28 April to 1 May. Participants discussed the theme "Let's collaborate in a balanced and coordinated approach to ensure regional peace, stability, and maritime security."

 

2.CHINA’S MEDICAL EXPERTS ASSISTING EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

Medical experts from China are currently assisting individuals in the earthquake-affected areas of the Mandalay Region. They are providing disease screening, administering vaccinations, offering preventive care, and delivering other health-related support to the local population.

Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira on Thursday floated an idea of collecting value-added tax (VAT) from businesses with an annual income below 1.8 million baht to boost state income and reduce budget deficits.

 

VIETNAM

 

1.RUSSIA-VIETNAM BEGIN MARINE SURVEY -- VIETNAMPLUS

The Russian research vessel Akademik Oparin docked at Nha Trang port in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa on May 1 to start the 9th joint marine survey. The research focuses on environmental concerns like marine pollution, microplastics and organic pollutants. 

 

2.LOWER LNG IMPORT TARIFF TO PROMOTE CLEAN ENERGY -- VIETNAMPLUS

The government reduced the preferential import tariff on liquefied natural gas (LNG) from five per cent to two per cent. The move is to accelerate Vietnam’s shift from fossil fuels to cleaner energy and to refine the nation’s energy policy.
