KOTA BHARU, April 20 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has been implementing the Cooking Oil Stabilisation Scheme (COSS) aimed at reducing the living costs of consumers.
Its director, Azman Ismail, said the initiative aims to ensure the transparent distribution of theubsidised one-kilogram (1kg) cooking oil packets, making sure they reach eligible consumers.
He said the programme is being carried out in line with directives from the ministry to monitor the entire production and distribution chain of subsidised cooking oil, from manufacturers and repackers to retailers.
“We will carry out this monitoring to track where each quota of cooking oil is distributed, including to supermarkets and outlets operating seven days a week, to ensure the supply genuinely reaches the people,” he told reporters after the Kelantan KPDN Aidilfitri celebration today.
Azman said there are plans to distribute subsidised cooking oil through the Rahmah Programme, targeting the implementation of 180 such events monthly.
He said each programme will provide 1,000 kilogrammes of packet cooking oil to ensure attendees receive a fair share of the subsidised supply.
"I hope traders do not use packet cooking oil for business purposes because it is reserved for household use only. If any trader is found to be storing more than 10 kg of packet cooking oil without a permit or permission, action can be taken under the Control of Supplies Act 1961," he said.
Azman said the issue with the cooking oil supply was not due to a shortage of stock, but rather stemmed from misuse by certain parties, as well as logistical challenges—particularly difficulties faced by lorries in transporting goods during festive seasons.
“The distribution quota for cooking oil to supermarkets is determined based on each outlet’s capacity and specific needs,” he said.
