IPOH, April 18 (Bernama) -- Perak state assemblymen today called on the state government to address sensitivities surrounding Race, Religion and Royalty (commonly referred to as 3R issues) more proactively, by proposing several measures during debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address at the State Legislative Assembly today.
Salina Samsudin (BN-Behrang) proposed the establishment of a Rapid Response Unit to monitor seditious content instead of merely acting after complaints were received.
“In addition, this unit will proactively monitor and collaborate with digital platforms to curb fake accounts, which are often the source of hate speech,” she said during the debate.
Salina also emphasised the importance of media literacy education in schools and communities, so that the public, especially the youth, would not be easily misled or become agents of spreading false information.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Hakimi Hamzi Mohd Hayat (PN-Titi Serong) stressed the need for clear guidelines involving celebrations of other ethnic groups’ festivals to preserve harmony in the state.
“Awareness training on religious sensitivities is necessary for government officers to ensure that every programme organised takes into account the diverse beliefs of local communities.
“Interfaith dialogues should also be strengthened to foster deeper understanding between different communities, thereby reinforcing national unity. Through these efforts, we can ensure that all citizens, regardless of religious background, feel respected and protected in line with the principles of social well-being,” he said.
The session will resume on Monday.
