KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) --  Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi congratulated national men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik on winning the 2025 Badmintion Asian Championship (BAC) in Ningbo, China today.

Ahmad Zahid described their success in ending Malaysia’s 18-year wait for a BAC doubles title as not only something to be proud of, but capable of uniting all Malaysians.

“Such an exciting performance! Although faced with pressure by the cheers of thousands of their opponents’ fans, it didn’t break their fighting spirit. Keep up this excellence for our country,” he posted on Facebook today.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh posted her congratulations in a Facebook post, and expressed her hope that the pair would keep doing the country proud.

“A huge congratulations to our national shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, who have just won the prestigious BAC men’s doubles title in Ningbo, China,” she posted.

Aaron-Wooi Yik had won their first BAC title earlier in the day when they beat China pair Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi, 21-19, 21-17 at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, a feat last achieved by Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah in 2007.
