KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- More than 800 women were equipped with essential safety skills at the 8th Women Street Crime Awareness Campaign organised by Allianz Malaysia Berhad through its CSR arm Allianz4Good in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur Road Safety Marshall Club (RSMC).
Allianz Malaysia, in a statement today, said the campaign, held at Cheras Leisure Mall here recently, aimed to build a safer community for women and navigate potential dangerous situations through hands-on demonstrations and practical safety modules.
According to Head of Allianz4Good, Ng Siew Gek, women's safety is a shared responsibility between individuals, communities and corporate entities.
“Through this initiative, we wanted to create an inclusive platform where important topics like road safety and personal security are made accessible to all. We hope this event raises awareness and encourages safer behaviour,” she said in the statement.
Meanwhile, RSMC Founder and President Captain K. Balasupramaniam, in the same statement, emphasised that empowering women in self-protection skills is essential to building a safer community.
“Through our collaboration with Allianz Malaysia, we can provide practical and impactful experiences that enhance personal security and road safety. Together, we are making strides towards a safer environment for everyone,” reads the statement.
This year’s campaign, for the first time, included road safety components such as vehicle safety inspection and tips on safer commuting for women.
Participants also took part in various modules, including handbag snatch safety, pepper spray handling, travel luggage safety and techniques to detect spy cameras and escape a potential lift attack.
The campaign also addressed risks such as drink driving and microsleep, offering tips to reduce vulnerability on the road.
