MALAYSIA-MALDIVES COMMITTED TO EMPHASISE ON CAPACITY BUILDING - KHALED

LANGKAWI, May 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and the Maldives are committed to emphasising capacity building and ensuring that cooperation in this aspect continues to be enhanced.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, through a Facebook post, informed that this was agreed upon during his meeting with the Minister of Defence of Maldives, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, last night.

"Received a visit from the Minister of Defence of Maldives, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, who is currently in Langkawi to attend the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25).

"Last night's meeting provided a platform for discussion and exchange of views, including on addressing challenges as maritime nations and strengthening existing defence ties," he said.

Additionally, he also received a courtesy call from the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans of South Africa, Matsie Angelina Motshekga, who is also in the country for LIMA'25.

He stated that the meeting was the first between the two leaders and also Matsie Angelina's inaugural visit to Malaysia.

"Malaysia-South Africa have had defence relations and cooperation since 1996. Stability in the ASEAN region serves as an inspiration for South Africa.

"May the close relationship and cooperation between these two countries be brought to a higher level, including from a defence perspective," he said.

LIMA'25 is jointly organized by the Ministry of Defence and Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC), focusing on innovation and enhancing competitiveness among industry players in line with current technological developments.

Themed "Innovate Today, Achieve Tomorrow," LIMA'25, held in Langkawi, Kedah, is the largest exhibition in the maritime and aerospace industries in Southeast Asia since it was first organised in 1991.
