SENSODYNE RE-LAUNCHES FRESH MINT FORMULA TO ADDRESS MALAYSIA’S TOOTH SENSITIVITY CRISIS

KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- Sensodyne, Malaysia’s number one sensitivity toothpaste brand, has re-launched its Fresh Mint variant with a new and improved formula, designed to provide long-lasting relief and encourage Malaysians to live life free from the worry of tooth sensitivity – because “Why Tahan?”.

In a statement, Haleon, a global leader in consumer health, revealed that a recent company-conducted survey highlights a significant oral health concern in Malaysia, with 69 per cent of respondents reporting regular tooth sensitivity, yet 61.8 per cent admitting they continue to endure the discomfort instead of seeking treatment.

“The survey of 248 Malaysians showed younger people are especially affected, with the majority of survey participants aged between 18 to 40.

“A total of 38.4 per cent of the respondents were aged 26 to 40, while 34.6 per cent belonged to the 18 to 25 age category, indicating a need for increased awareness and effective solutions for sensitive teeth across all age groups.

“Sensitivity caused by cold foods (58.5 per cent), sweets, and hot drinks is disrupting daily enjoyment. Alarmingly, only 13.1 per cent of those affected use brushing as a relief strategy, pointing to a clear gap in awareness,” it said.

Haleon highlighted that the newly launched Sensodyne Fresh Mint provides “24-hour protection relief from sensitivity with continued, twice-daily use; lasting freshness with enhanced mint formula; and triple-action cleaning to polish teeth, remove stains, and brush away bacteria.”

The effectiveness of Sensodyne is further supported by a Real-World Evidence study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH).

“The Dentine Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire study identified that 100 per cent of daily users reported satisfaction, and 98 per cent saw improvements in sensitivity,” it said.

Haleon Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Marketing Lead, Law Chen, said Sensodyne, in collaboration with the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA), is stepping up efforts to raise awareness and promote early intervention, as sensitivity, if left untreated, can lead to more serious dental issues.

“Too many Malaysians endure the discomfort of tooth sensitivity, missing out on simple joys like a refreshing iced coffee or a scoop of ice cream. Instead of addressing the root cause, many wait for the pain to pass.

“These findings underscore the urgent need for effective solutions and greater awareness around sensitivity,” he said.

Meanwhile, MDA periodontist Dr Mohd Salman Masri stressed that tooth sensitivity is more than just a minor inconvenience.

“That’s why it’s crucial to address sensitivity early – right when you first feel it. Ignoring it could lead to bigger problems down the line,” he said.

To mark World Oral Health Day, Sensodyne is also running the “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Mind” nationwide campaign, offering free dental check-ups at over 500 clinics nationwide from April 21 to May 21, 2025, in partnership with the MDA.

Sensodyne Fresh Mint is now available at pharmacies, clinics, and major retailers nationwide. For more information, visit www.sensodyne.com.my or follow Sensodyne Malaysia on Facebook and Instagram.
