SEREMBAN, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has foiled the misappropriation of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) worth RM2.4 million nationwide, from Jan 1, 2024 to April 30 this year.
KPDN Enforcement director-general Datuk Azman Adam said 321 cases have been recorded, with the latest involving a seizure at a premises in the Light Industrial Area here on April 30, valued at approximately RM450,000.
He said an initial inspection found the premises had been turned into an illegal storage site for decanting activities, which involves transferring subsidised LPG for households into gas tankers using a compressor pump for industrial use.
“A total of 976 LPG cylinders, a compressor pump, rubber hoses and various other equipment used in the operation, including a tanker lorry, two LPG tanks and a three-ton lorry, were seized for further investigation. The total amount of LPG seized was 17,232 kilogrammes,” he said in a statement today.
Azman added that a 28-year-old man and six foreign workers in their 30s were detained to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
