MELAKA, May 6 (Bernama) -- The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) issued 157 notices and recorded 34 cases of non-compliance in Melaka during the first four months of this year.
CIDB Enforcement Division general manager Mohammad Farris Abdul Aziz said the actions resulted from 535 inspections covering accreditation, construction materials, construction personnel, contractors and project declarations.
“Failure to declare projects accounted for the highest percentage of offences at 47.06 per cent, followed by the employment of skilled workers without accreditation (29.69 per cent) and offences related to construction personnel (10.94 per cent).
“A total of 64 investigation papers were also opened, with most cases involving the failure to declare projects,” he told reporters during the Integrated Enforcement Operation 1/2025 at a factory construction site in Bachang here today.
He added that to date, 1,578 projects have been declared through the Centralised Information Management System (CIMS), with a total value exceeding RM3.6 billion, and 121 construction sites involving 170 contractors were inspected during this period.
“Of the total, 82 contractors were issued compounds for offences under Act 520, namely related to contractor registration certification, construction personnel registration, skilled worker accreditation, project declaration, and compliance with the Certificate of Standard Compliance (PPS),” he said.
Commenting on today’s operation, Mohammad Farris said it involved six agencies, namely the Labour Department, Melaka State Health Department, Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council, and the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation.
“Compliance levels among the eight companies inspected, comprising five local and three foreign contractors, were satisfactory. However, checks on foreign construction personnel revealed that five out of 107 workers had yet to obtain their green cards,” he added.
