KAMPAR, May 2 (Bernama) -- The Cashless@NADI programme, organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has succeeded in recording 3,216 cashless transactions in 27 locations in Perak since it was implemented on Feb 12.

Perak Communications, Multimedia and Non-Govermental Organisations (NGO) Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi said a total of 141 merchants have successfully registered digitally during that period.

“The programme was done through two phases involving several states such Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang in 2023 and 2024.

"This success has become a catalyst for the implementation of phase three, which has been expanded to the state of Perak, where all event locations involve collaborations between the MCMC and several strategic partners," he said after officiating the launching ceremony of the Perak 2025 Cashless Carnival at the Dewan Arena Tualang Sekah here today.

The implementation of the programme in 28 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) nationwide began in 2023 via phase one and was continued with phase two a year later in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang.

During this period, 17,829 cashless transactions have been recorded involving 44,203 visitors in addition to 4,220 traders successfully registering on the digital platform.

Meanwhile, Mohd Azlan said his team plans to expand the organisation of the programme to the parliamentary and state assembly levels to ensure that awareness of the programme can be increased among all groups.

"Widespread dissemination not only enhances understanding but also aligns with the call of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 plan, which aims for the people of Perak to adopt innovation, technology, and digital services to improve the economy, productivity and quality of life," he said.

In the meantime, he said over 5,000 visitors, especially residents in the Tualang Sekah state constituency, attended the one-day carnival, which saw the participation of several agencies such as Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN), Bank Islam, Touch ‘n Go Digital and others.

He also said that the carnival provided various facilities and services to visitors, including banking transactions, payment of fines, MADANI Rahmah Sales and much more.

The programme aims to raise awareness among the local community and merchants about the benefits of using cashless payments and the adoption of technology such as e-wallets, DuitNow, quick response (QR) and debit/credit cards.
