PUTRAJAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- Men experiencing emotional distress or mental health issues that lead to negative behaviour towards others are encouraged to seek professional help without shame or fear, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She said many men are hesitant to come forward and open up about their emotional struggles, but emphasised that counselling services offered at any facility are safe and confidential.
“We keep it confidential, including calls to the 15999 helpline (Talian Kasih). Additionally, we have the One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS), which offers psychosocial support to those in need.
“There is no reason for men to feel ashamed. We encourage them to seek help. Sometimes talking or even drawing can help express what they are feeling or going through,” she told reporters after attending the International Conference for Empowering Women’s Inclusive Leadership here today.
Her remarks follow a recent incident where a man was caught recording videos of a pregnant woman at a supermarket in Seremban 2, allegedly for inappropriate purposes.
The video went viral on social media and has prompted speculation that the man may be suffering from mental health issues and in need of professional counselling.
