KOTA BHARU, April 24 (Bernama) -- Despite having to sit for the 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination from a hospital bed, it did not stop Aimimuqri Harraz Mohd Sufian, 18, from achieving outstanding results.
The Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dato’ Ahmad Maher student scored 4A+, 2A-, 2A, and 1B in the SPM results announced today.
Aimimuqri, the youngest of five siblings said he suffered from food poisoning two days before the English paper, which led to his admission to a private hospital in Kota Bharu.
“Before the incident, I had roti canai for breakfast, which I bought while attending tuition class outside school. By afternoon, I began experiencing symptoms of food poisoning such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
“My condition worsened at night, with over 20 episodes of vomiting and diarrhea, leading to dehydration. I was eventually taken to the hospital and warded for five days for further treatment,” he told reporters at Dewan Tan Sri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid, SMK Dato’ Ahmad Maher, here today.
During the five days in hospital, Aimimuqri sat for four exam papers, English, Mathematics, History, and Islamic Studies from his hospital bed.
Driven by his ambition to become a pilot, Aimimuqri remained undeterred and motivated despite having to sit for the exams away from his classmates.
“I never imagined I would have to sit for SPM in the hospital. I was still vomiting while answering the English paper. Alhamdulillah, with the support of my mother, Wan Faziawati Wan Mohd, 54, and father, Mohd Sufian Abdullah, 54, who constantly encouraged me, I was able to get through this challenge,” he said.
Aimimuqri said he plans to further his studies at Universiti Kuala Lumpur before continuing his education abroad to fulfil his childhood dream.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my teachers, my parents, and the doctors who cared for and treated me while I was sitting for the SPM examination,” he added.
