SHAH ALAM, April 23 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) has identified 166 asnaf families residing in the Putra Heights area, following a gas pipeline explosion earlier this month in Subang Jaya.
Chief executive officer Mohd Khaidzir Shahari said the agency is still in the process of verifying how many of these families were directly affected by the incident, as authorities have not yet granted access to the affected area.
“At this stage, we are not allowed to enter the area. We are awaiting official data from the relevant authorities, including the number of asnaf families impacted,” he said.
“Once we receive the confirmed data, we will immediately begin distributing aid to the affected families,” he added at a press conference on LZS’s 2024 zakat collection and distribution performance held at Menara Zakat Sultan Idris Shah here today.
In the meantime, LZS has already provided early assistance to nearly 300 Muslim families in the area, offering each household RM500 in immediate relief within a week of the incident.
The incident on April 1 had caused severe damage, with 81 homes completely destroyed due to structural failure exceeding 40 per cent. Another 81 houses were partially damaged, while 57 were affected but not burned.
A further 218 houses, including those in nearby Kampung Tengah, Puchong, were reported to be unaffected.
