KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) newsroom staff member Marlia Mohamed breathed her last at 5.45 pm today at her home in Shah Alam, Selangor.
Marlia, 44, who previously served as a journalist in the Current Affairs News Section of the Department of Broadcasting Malaysia, had been permanently disabled due to diabetes, which she had battled since 2009.
Her aunt, Sabariah Mohamad, said the deceased had been noticeably weak over the past three days.
“She also had little appetite. Earlier, I was contacted by her husband who informed me that Marlia had passed away at her home,” she told Bernama today.
The late Marlia, who began suffering from the illness after giving birth to her only son, had her left leg amputated up to the thigh following a bacterial infection in November 2023. Her condition had also drawn the attention of Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, who visited her at home last year.
She received corporate social responsibility (CSR) assistance in the form of an electric bed from the Human Resources Ministry and the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
Sabariah said the electric bed had greatly helped ease her niece's daily needs.
“She leaves behind a 16-year-old son,” she added.
