KEDA ALLOCATES RM1.4 MLN FOR ‘PENDAMPINGAN’ PROGRAMME

ALOR SETAR, April 20 (Bernama) -- The Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) has allocated RM1.4 million for the implementation of its Pendampingan Programme, aimed at improving and developing the socioeconomic well-being of rural communities in the state.

KEDA chairman Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the programme, which has been ongoing for several years, would continue and remains one of the agency’s key initiatives to engage communities within its operational areas through Pembangunan Minda Insan and Lifelong Learning activities.

“As an agency under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, KEDA is entrusted with various aspects of socioeconomic development, poverty eradication and bridging the urban-rural development gap.

Among the spiritual-based activities carried out are Pengimarahan Ramadan dan Aidilfitri, Khatan Perdana, Daurah Kitab and Solid Waste Management Programme in KEDA villages. This is the kind of outreach we aim to sustain and enhance for the well-being of the community,” he told reporters at the KEDA Aidilfitri celebration here today.

He added that the initiative reflects KEDA’s role as a key agency in strengthening religious values and rural identity in a holistic manner, in line with its objective to promote balanced development between urban and rural areas.

“KEDA may not be the main player in religious empowerment, but we remain committed to being a strong supporter of initiatives that benefit rural communities, ensuring that well-being covers both physical and spiritual aspects,” he added.
