OVER 11,000 SMES EMBRACE DIGITALISATION THROUGH EXABYTES-MYNIC CAMPAIGN

CYBERJAYA, April 20 (Bernama) -- More than 11,000 Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) took a major leap toward digitalisation through a nationwide campaign organised by digital solutions provider Exabytes in collaboration with MYNIC Bhd, Malaysia’s official domain registry.

The campaign, which ran from April 1 to Dec 31 2024, was designed to help local businesses strengthen their online presence by registering .MY domains and adopting digital tools.

Participants were eligible to win a brand-new Tesla Model 3 by registering or renewing a domain extension with Exabytes for a five-year subscription or earn additional entries by spending RM500 and above on any hosting solution.

Exabytes Vice President of Group Marketing Michelle Yap said the campaign aimed to equip SMEs with not just a digital presence, but digital power.

“Today, your website is your front door. Your .MY domain is your identity. And what you do online can determine whether your business survives or scales.

“In 2024 alone, Exabytes recorded a 44.9 per cent growth in new SME domain registrations. It was also named MYNIC’s Most Improved Domestic Registrar with an 88.57 per cent year-on-year growth, reflecting rising digital awareness among Malaysian businesses,” she said during the campaign’s finale at the Tesla Experience Centre here recently.

Looking ahead, Yap said Exabytes and MYNIC are set to continue the momentum with the 2025 edition of the campaign, Drive Dreams with Domains, which focuses on empowering more Malaysian businesses through deeper digital enablement via AI tools, enhanced cybersecurity and smart marketing.

“The future belongs to the bold. And at Exabytes, we’re here to make sure every Malaysian business has the tools and the drive to claim that future,” she said.

Meanwhile, MYNIC Senior Vice President of Operations Shahrel Hanafiah stressed the importance of .MY domains as symbols of digital credibility.

“.MY is not just a digital address, but a powerful representation of your brand’s story and vision. It signals to the world that your organisation values authenticity, professionalism and a meaningful presence in the digital space,” he said.

As part of the campaign’s finale, Exabytes and MYNIC hosted a celebration at the Tesla Experience Centre in Cyberjaya, where a lucky winner of a Tesla Model 3 was announced.

The car was awarded to Zaidi Parmoto, 45, from Johor Bahru, who works as a Creative Manager at Myoutdoor.com Sdn Bhd, a website development company.

Zaidi, who has been using Exabytes’ services since 2010, said a domain name plays a crucial role in defining the business identity of his clients.

“I believe it’s essential for every business to have a unique domain name — it’s your company’s identity in the digital age. With a .MY domain, customers can easily tell the business is local and trustworthy,” he said.
