KOTA MARUDU, April 11 (Bernama) -- Weekly 'tamu desa’ (village market) entrepreneurs in Kampung Tagaroh, near here, can now run their businesses in a more comfortable setting now that the premises, built through an allocation from the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development last year, has been completed.
Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Datuk Ewon Benedick said the 'tamu desa’ was among 94 premises developed using the RM200,000 allocation aimed at providing more comfortable facilities for the traders.
"It is also part of the solution to the specific requirement in Sabah and Sarawak, which has a tradition of having weekly one-day markets,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier, Ewon surveyed the 'tamu desa’ premises and conversed with the traders, most of whom are mothers selling various types of products, such as vegetables, fruits, food and drinks.
He also presented "Sentuhan Kasih” contributions of RM5,000 to the 'tamu desa’ administrative committee for the purchase of additional equipment, such as tables and chairs for use at the premises.
Meanwhile, Kampung Tagaroh Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) chairman Ridjoe Galanang thanked the government for the construction of the premises, which he described as a breath of fresh air for the traders, who previously had to carry out their businesses under umbrellas and canopies.
"It not only benefits the 25 active traders in this village but also provides more comfortable settings for visitors.
"Previously, we did business using only umbrellas and canopies, now we have a more comfortable and special building for the traders,” he said, adding that the 'tamu desa’ in the village is held every Wednesday and acts as a platform to market the agricultural products of the villagers.
