FOUR GOATS KILLED IN PANTHER ATTACK IN LENGGENG

11/04/2025 06:09 PM

SEREMBAN, April 11 (Bernama) -- Four goats were lost to a panther attack in Kampung Jelatok, Lenggeng earlier today, according to the Negeri Sembilan Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan).

State Perhilitan director Faizal Izham Pikri said officers responding to the report at 9.50 am found three goats killed inside a pen and a kid mauled and abandoned just outside the enclosure. Panther tracks were discovered nearby, confirming the predator’s involvement.

“The animal is believed to have entered through a nearby oil palm plantation. The kid appears to have been dragged out of the pen before being abandoned not far from the area,” he said in a statement.

Faizal said traps are being placed in the area to capture the animal, with the livestock owner advised to reinforce the enclosure, especially at night and remain vigilant.

The owner, 70-year-old Abdul Rahman Abdullah, was alerted to the attack by his daughter-in-law, Erlinda Ahmad, 47, who heard unusual noises from the farmland at around 6 am.

“This is the second time I’ve lost livestock to a panther. It was chickens before and now goats. I’ve suffered about RM5,000 in losses,” he said.

Perhilitan has also urged residents not to approach or attempt to deal with the animal themselves to avoid untoward incidents.
