UPSI VICE-CHANCELLOR APPOINTED AS 15TH MALAYSIAN EXAMINATIONS COUNCIL CHAIRMAN

IPOH, April 11 (Bernama) -- Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff has been appointed as chairman of the Malaysian Examinations Council (MPM), effective March 7.

UPSI said that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had consented to the appointment of Md Amin as the 15th chairman for the 2025-206 session. 

"Md Amin's appointment is in line with the provision under Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Malaysian Examinations Council Act 1980 (Act 225).

"The appointment is effective until June 30 next year or until the end of his term as vice-chancellor of the public university, whichever comes first,” UPSI said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Md Amin, in the same statement, described the appointment as a huge trust in efforts to empower the country's assessment system.

He also expressed his gratitude to the King for the trust shown in him, saying: "I accept this appointment with a feeling of gratitude and responsibility. This is not just an honour for me, but also to UPSI as a whole.”

He added that his main focus in leading the MPM will be to ensure the transparency, credibility and reliability of the country's examination system in line with Malaysia's educational aspirations.

"I'm committed to strengthening the MPM's role as the main authoritative body in the aspects of evaluation and assessment.

"We must be responsive to current needs, including aspects of digitalisation and the effectiveness of assessments in the 21st century,” he said.
