GEORGE TOWN, April 11 (Bernama) -- Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) will mobilise 80 tanker lorries and 182 water tanks as part of its water relief plan (WRP), during the scheduled water supply interruption (SWSI) beginning on April 25.
Its chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan said that the relief plan was designed to support 341,708 affected consumers, across five districts in Penang.
“The WRP will be implemented in three phases, with the first phase starting at 10 pm on April 25, and lasting until 10 pm the following day. During this time, 80 tanker lorries and 182 water tanks will be deployed to the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT), Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS), Timur Laut, and Barat Daya districts, within the first 24 hours.
“Phase two will begin at 10 am on April 26 and continue until 10 pm the next day, with 80 tanker lorries and 125 water tanks being withdrawn from the SPS and Barat Daya areas, once 40 per cent of the water supply has been restored.
“Phase three will start at 10 pm on April 27 and run until 10 am the following day, with 80 tanker lorries and 120 water tanks being deployed to the end of the distribution pipe (EoL) areas, and residential areas on higher ground, after 88 per cent of the water supply has been restored,” he said in a statement, today.
He said that five tanks would be decommissioned after 48 hours, once the majority of consumers in SPS and Barat Daya had their water supply restored, and the WRP would only be phased out once 95 per cent of the water supply was fully restored.
He further explained that water supply was expected to be restored to affected consumers in the Seberang Perai Utara (SPU), SPT, and Timur Laut districts within 24 hours, while the majority of consumers in the SPS and Barat Daya areas should expect restoration within 48 hours.
Water supply for all affected consumers, including those in the end-of-distribution-pipe (EoL) areas, and residential areas on higher ground in the SPS and Barat Daya districts, is expected to be fully restored within 60 hours.
Affected consumers are advised to plan ahead, by storing sufficient water for use over 24, 48, or 60 hours, depending on the expected duration of the water supply interruption (SWSI) in their areas.
