09/04/2025 08:08 PM

SHAH ALAM, April 9 (Bernama) -- A total of 219 out of 469 heads of households affected by the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, have received the immediate assistance announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the Petaling District Office is finalising the verification of the affected individuals, which is expected to be completed by this Friday to ensure no one is left out and prevent errors in distribution.

“As of last night, the Petaling District Office and Social Welfare Department have confirmed 469 families impacted by the gas pipeline explosion that occurred last Tuesday.

“This figure differs from the 613 families registered at the temporary relief centre, as that number included residents from outside the affected housing areas and villages,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat Building today.

Amirudin added that the state government has finalised the list of 469 heads of households eligible to receive the previously announced aid of either RM10,000 or RM5,000.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the state government will collaborate with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to begin clean-up operations of the affected area this weekend, with the support of approximately 1,000 volunteers.

“We will do our best to thoroughly clean the affected locality to ensure greater comfort for residents, especially the 270 houses that have been declared safe for occupancy,” he said.

Amirudin also announced that the Petaling District and Land Office will set up a mobile counter at Kampung Kuala Sungai Baharu to assist residents in replacing property titles that were damaged in the fire.

He added that a 30-metre stretch of road between the location of the incident and Taman Putra Harmoni will be closed to facilitate police investigations.

“This will also allow technical teams to collect data for a clearer understanding of the incident and its cause so that responsibility can be accurately determined,” he said.
