KAJANG, April 8 (Bernama) -- About 1,200 creative art practitioners are being targeted to join the Civil Defence Force (APM) Creative Arts Brigade by 2026, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who was appointed as (Defence Force) Honorary Commissioner today, said so far 172 creative art practitioners, including those from the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS), have registered as members of the APM Creative Arts Brigade.

"We intend to have 1,200 creative art practitioners join the APM Creative Arts Brigade by next year.

"Those in the Creative Arts Brigade can inspire more people to join the APM,” he said during the closing of the 2025 Civil Defence Month celebration, which was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi here today.

He said the involvement of creative art practitioners as volunteers would enable them to play specific roles, thus opening the eyes of the public to the work carried out by the APM during disasters.

Fahmi also said the Communications Ministry is always prepared to raise awareness among the people regarding APM as well as aspects related to disasters, such as floods.

"I have called on the Creative Arts Brigade to be ready ahead of the preparedness month in October. We will make sure there are creative art practitioners involved in every state in conjunction with the preparedness month,” he said.

Fahmi added that FINAS will also assist in providing several public service announcements regarding the APM as well as related matters, including actions that need to be taken when disasters occur.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Fahmi were among 79 individuals who received the instruments of appointment as honorary and associate officers of the APM, which were presented by Ahmad Zahid in conjunction with the closing of the 2025 Civil Defence Month celebration today.

Fadillah was appointed as Ketua Pesuruhjaya Perdana (Perdana Chief Commissioner), while Fahmi, along with Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, were appointed as honorary commissioners.
