KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- The situation in flood-hit Johor and Sabah remained largely unchanged overnight, with a slight decrease in the number of evacuees housed at relief centres.
In JOHOR, the number of flood evacuees in Batu Pahat dropped to 326 from 109 families as at 9 am today, compared to 334 people from 110 families recorded yesterday.
State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said the evacuees, from Kampung Baharu, Kampung Parit Bengkok, Kampung Parit Kaspan, Kampung Parit Samion, Kampung Parit Haji Salleh Ros, Kampung Parit Sri Muar, Kampung Sri Pandan and Kampung Parit Samijan were being housed at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Gading.
According to him, the level of the Sungai Senggarang station in Senggarang, Batu Pahat has exceeded the warning point, with a reading of 3.26 metres.
"The Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for Pontian, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru," he said in a statement.
In SABAH, the state JPBN Secretariat said that the number of flood evacuees at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Garam in Kinabatangan remained unchanged at 146 from 31 families from four villages in the district as at 8 am.
