KING TO VISIT SITE OF GAS PIPELINE FIRE INCIDENT TODAY

KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (Bernama) -- His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, is scheduled to visit the site of the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor at 10 am today.

His Majesty is also scheduled to present contributions to the heads of households involved and visit the temporary relief centre at the Putra Heights Mosque.

On the fifth day of the gas pipeline explosion, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other agencies are still carrying out investigations and follow-up actions at the site.

Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, when contacted by Bernama, said they are holding joint talks with the agencies involved this morning on the next steps at the location.

A Bernama survey at the location found that the agencies at the site included the PDRM, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Public Works Department and local authorities.

The fire at the Petronas gas pipeline, which occurred at 8.10 am on Tuesday (April 1), saw flames soaring over 30 metres high with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius, and it took nearly eight hours to be completely extinguished.

A total of 87 houses have been declared a "total loss” and deemed unfit for occupation while 148 other affected houses that sustained damage can be occupied after repairs.
