GENERALI MALAYSIA SETS UP BOOTH AT MASJID PUTRA HEIGHTS TO ASSIST FIRE VICTIMS

04/04/2025 08:03 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- Generali Malaysia has set up a booth at the Masjid Putra Heights temporary relief centre (PPS) to assist its policyholders affected by last Tuesday's gas pipeline fire with home and motor insurance claims.

In a statement, Generali Malaysia said the on-site support team, stationed at the PPS from 9 am to 4.30 pm starting yesterday until Sunday (April 6), comprises a mobile team and adjusters to assess home and vehicle conditions, facilitate claim submissions and assist with vehicle towing requests.

The insurance company also reaffirmed its commitment to assisting affected policyholders through an expedited and hassle-free claims process, in addition to waiving the requirement for police and fire department incident reports.

Meanwhile, Generali Insurance Malaysia Berhad chief executive officer Fabrice Benard emphasised the importance of comprehensive motor and home insurance coverage to mitigate financial burdens and support swift recovery.

“It only takes one incident to burn a hole in the pocket, and unexpected events can often take us by surprise. The role of insurance is to safeguard people from unforeseen circumstances and should not be seen as just a ‘nice to have’.

“It is important to regularly review our coverage and adequately insure our most significant investments against potential risks caused by explosions, fires or other related incidents to ensure financial protection and peace of mind,” he said in the same statement.

The statement noted that many homeowners only insure their homes against fire due to housing loan requirements, while strata properties are typically covered under a master fire policy that excludes personal belongings. Hence, it is recommended to have home contents coverage to protect belongings and valuables against unexpected perils.

“Additionally, comprehensive motor insurance with relevant add-ons is crucial. Generali Malaysia is offering coverage for affected policyholders during this challenging time,” it said.

The fire involving a Petronas gas pipeline on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, at 8.10 am last Tuesday affected 1,254 people from 308 families.

Eligible policyholders impacted by the incident can submit their claims by calling 1300 13 2121 / +603 3007 2121 or emailing customer.service.gi@generali.com.my.
