KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- The initiative to provide cars for temporary use by victims of the gas pipeline blaze in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya has brought some relief to those who lost their vehicles in the incident.
One of the recipients, 40-year-old Che Afaizi Che Mat said he definitely needed the assistance as all his vehicles were destroyed and he also had to send his two children, who have health issues, for checkups.
"I am happy because I really need a car as my children are not well… one has chronic asthma and the other has heart problems.
"With this car, I can now attend to my children's checkup needs. So, I truly appreciate this initiative,” the lorry driver told Bernama.
Another recipient, 48-year-old lorry driver Mohd Azmi Abdul Wahab also welcomed the initiative as his car has been declared a total loss in the fiery blaze that occurred on Tuesday (April 1).
"This assistance will surely ease our burden a little as we do not have any vehicles for daily use. My car is completely destroyed.
"I really need this car for the convenience of my family,” said Mohd Azmi, who escaped with nothing but the clothes on his back in the incident.
A workshop operator, 47-year-old Mohd Sabry Nordin, meanwhile, admitted that the car, though for temporary use only, would come in handy as he juggles sending his three children, aged between six and 13, to school.
He said the car and two motorcycles he owned were completely destroyed in the gas pipeline blaze.
Earlier, 25 victims of the blaze incident received a car each from Chery Malaysia for their use for a month from today while the remaining 25 cars will be handed over on Monday (April 7).
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who attended the vehicle handing-over ceremony, said that besides Chery, which is providing 50 cars, Carsome has pledged to provide 50 cars, Carro (30), GoCar (20) and DRB-Hicom (62).
