Penang MAQIS in a statement announced that an inspection of the entire consignment of goods worth RM30,000 found that the goods did not have a valid MAQIS import permit.
"The act of importing seaweed extract without a valid MAQIS import permit is an offence and the case is being investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728)," the statement said today.
The statement announced that strict action would be taken against any party who failed to comply with the conditions in order to ensure that the country's safety and biosecurity controls continue to be maintained.
