PUTRAJAYA, April 11 (Bernama) -- Security at 39 airports in Malaysia operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has been strengthened with the commissioning of Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers and personnel.

A total of 15 officers and 301 AVSEC personnel were officially commissioned today during a passing-out parade at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA 1), officiated by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain and MAHB Chairman Dr Nungsari Ahmad Radhi.

Nungsari said with the commissioning of the new officers and personnel, the total strength of MAHB's AVSEC force now stands at 3,743, making it the largest auxiliary police unit in the country’s corporate sector.

“Passenger and airport security remains MAHB’s top priority. In line with Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2025 and preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, airport security has become even more critical.

“This is to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for passengers. Therefore, we are not only focusing on training and human capital development but also investing in the latest security technology to strengthen AVSEC’s capabilities,” he said in a statement today.

The passing-out parade was held to officially recognise AVSEC officers and personnel as frontline defenders responsible for securing airports, which are vital national infrastructure.

All officers and personnel completed comprehensive training and are now equipped to carry out their duties efficiently and professionally.

The trainees underwent a six-month training programme, beginning with two months of intensive training at the Police Training Centre (PULAPOL), focusing on public order and security discipline.

This was followed by four months of training at the MAHB Training Centre, including two months of on-the-job training to provide practical field experience.

The training syllabus was comprehensive, covering both technical and theoretical aspects. Trainees were taught firearms handling to prepare them for high-security situations.

They were also trained in self-defence to handle emergencies physically, alongside drill activities aimed at enhancing discipline and coordination.

Academically, the trainees were educated on police laws and civil aviation regulations to ensure strict compliance with national security and aviation standards.
