KUCHING, April 4 (Bernama) -- Police in Sarawak recorded a total of 332 road accident cases with five fatalities, during Op Selamat 24 in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said road accident and fatality cases showed a decrease of 6.2 per cent and 28.6 per cent respectively compared to Op Selamat 22 conducted last year.

"Op Selamat 22 in 2024 recorded a total of 354 road accidents with seven fatal cases," he said in a statement today.

According to him, three of the five fatal cases involved motorcyclists, with one case each involving  a four-wheel drive and a lorry

Mancha said police had issued 6,707 summonses to road users for various traffic offences during Op Selamat 24, which was held for six days starting March 29,

“This statistic has decreased by 23.8 per cent or 2,097 summonses compared to last year’s Op Selamat. The decrease in summonses issued for Op Selamat 24/2025 this time is because the PDRM is more focused on advocacy and providing services to road users in the smooth flow of traffic,” he said.
